Sister Rumsey and I are doing super good! I love this work, I love being here in Taiwan! I love being a missionary.
This week we went tracting. After saying a prayer asking the Lord to help us have success, we tracted into a family! As soon as the mom opened the door, her two little girls came out and just hugged us. They had never seen us, but I felt like they recognized us. The parents invited us in and we sat down to talk with them. The husband came out, offered us some juice and bananas. He turned the TV off and we taught the family about this gospel! God to know them, taught them how to pray, taught them about the importance of Church. It was such a miracle! It was one of the few times on my mission that I have actually taught a whole family together.
That was my favorite thing that happened this week, I know that people are out there who need this gospel!
I think it's such a huge blessing to be here in Taiwan sharing this message. As we go about each day, we meet so many new people. People recognize us as missionaries and a majority of people have talked with missionaries before. Even though the culture here is very traditional, Buddhism, Daoism, you hardly ever meet someone who hasn't heard of Jesus Christ.
We see in the scriptures over and over the promise that "the knowledge of a Savior shall spread throughout every nation, kindred, tongue, and people" (Mosiah 3:20). This promise is being fulfilled right now, in our day! It's such an incredible experience to be a part of it! Each day I can act as a representative of Jesus Christ to tell the world about their Savior Jesus Christ!
Here were some highlights from this week:
Met with a less active, after the closing prayer, she said "I feel happy!" and just smiled!
Our investigator left work to come attend sacrament meeting because she knows how important it is!
Stopped by a member's home and taught them about how the fall of Adam and Eve makes the Atonement necessary. They listened intently as if they had never really put the two principles together.
Went to Taizhong for a leadership meeting, saw Sister Jorgensen and Sister Johnston! Got all filled in on things happening in my last area.
Taught about prophets, but our investigator seemed a little hesitant about accepting the idea. Dropped off a talk by President Monson for her to read and she later told us it really helped her understand how important prophets really are!
Road up a huge huge mountain to visit a member...she lived right next to a giant Buddha! We were sweating a ton, but we were so happy to see her and meet!
Taught the little kids in english class how to sing a song about eternal families!
Met with several new investigators, tried to understand their background and relate their situations and beliefs to the restored gospel!
One of the elders in this area is going home today and I'm going home in a few weeks, they had a fireside and asked me to bear my testimony!
Met another family - the mom sells Taiwanese hamburgers and insisted that we try her drink she makes! Yummy! Her family came home and she introduced us to her kids (SO CUTE.) and they invited us to come back again and share more about our message!
It was a really great week! Lots happening in this area, so many miracles and blessings! I know that the Lord lives, I know that He loves us and watches out for us.
"Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and ye shall find me; ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." Doctrine and Covenants 88:63.
Love you all so much! Sister Berrey
