It was so fun skyping with you all this morning! It was so good to see all of you and to actually have time to talk. I love you all so much!
We were contacting a family last night. I asked the two little daughters if they had told their mom I love you that day. The mom told me that she's never heard her daughters tell her I love you before. They write it on cards and she knows that they love her, but people don't really express their love like that here in Taiwan. One of their daughters turned to her mom and said "I love you" in English and we all laughed, but it was really cute. I love you all so much, I hope you all know and remember that! :)
At the beginning of the week, we spent a little bit more time inside. I rested for a little while because I just really needed to recover fully before going out and doing the work. All I wanted to do was go outside and actually be a missionary. I sat there thinking about everything for a while, about how short this time is to serve as a full-time missionary. I just love being a missionary, and I am trying my best to make the most of every single day.
Every week, we work really hard trying to talk to everyone and teach people this message of the restored gospel. I've recently been praying a lot for the Lord to help us find those who really want baptism, who really want to accept and live this gospel. We had a lesson last night with an investigator and the first time we talked with her she asked us about baptism and what she needs to do to be baptized! It was really excited to see, I know this gospel can bring so many blessings to everyone's life, and I just love seeing people who really want to learn it!
The Spirit was so strong this week as we taught Smile about the plan of salvation. She prayed at the end of the lesson and thanked Heavenly Father for allowing her to learn about these things. She had wondered about where she came from and where she's going after death, but didn't really know the answers. In her prayer, there was no question. She knew that the things that we taught were true. She believed it and it helped her better understand who she is!
Annie is doing really well! Yesterday was Mother's Day, so we stopped by to give her a flower. Her family was home and they invited us to sit down with them. They brought all this watermelon out and made us some seaweed soup. Their grandfather was talking in Taiwanese, bragging about the mango trees in their backyard. Annie brought us around and showed us all the plants they have back there. They grow their own mangoes, bananas, fairy pears, guavas, pumpkin, grapes. It was so pretty! I uploaded some pictures.
As we were praying one night, Sister Johnston had a feeling that we should go contact outside the hospital. We'd never been over there, but we planned to spend some time over there. We talked with a couple families and then started talking with a woman who was there exercising. She asked us if we could come over to a bench and sit down and talk with her. We asked her some questions and she just started crying. Her ex-husband was in the hospital from a car accident and she just started telling us everything. We taught her about prayer and tried to encourage and support her. We testified of the love of God, that He can help her face the challenges that come to us.
We had a chance this week to go to LinYuan with Caroline! We rode the bus together and spent some time down there. We went to a park and were able to just talk with everyone and get a lot of numbers. As we walked around the streets, we talked with people and invited them to our English class. We went and stopped by less active houses, got some caomei pancakes and taught a lesson to a mom and her daughter! It was really hot out, but Caroline loved it! She kept talking the whole time about how she's been thinking about serving a mission!
All the missionaries in this ward went over to the Ye family's house for dinner! It was super yummy! Clam soup, lots of vegetables, fish, and some ice with beans and fruit for dessert. Ye Jie Mei and Ye Di Xiong met through the church and I could really feel the Spirit as we talked about the importance of faith. They have so much faith and they know that Heavenly Father wants the best for them. They have faced a lot of challenges since being married, but as they've put their trust in the Lord, they have had the strength to face anything that happens.
It was a really good week! I love this work and I love this gospel! I am so grateful for it in my life, it's brought me so much purpose knowing who I am and who I come from. I know that because of Heavenly Father's plan, we can return to live with Him. This time that we have here on earth is our time to prepare ourselves to meet Him. As we go through each day, we should think about whether the things that we are doing are helping us prepare for an eternal happiness, or if they are hindering us and negatively affecting our spirits. Stay happy, put your trust in the Lord, and know that He will make everything work out. I know that God lives! I know that He wants us to be happy. Through this gospel, we can focus on what is most important, change, and become better every single day! I am so grateful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I know that He suffered and died for every one of us. He knows exactly how we feel, He knows how to comfort and help us, we just have to be humble enough to take His hand and we will feel our lives changing.
I love you all so much! Sister Berrey
