Today is move call! Sister Johnston will still be serving here in Xiao Gang, but a lot of changes are going on with other missionaries! There are 30 new missionaries who came next week, 7 Taiwanese missionaries and 13 from America who were reassigned while waiting for their visas and 10 who came straight from the MTC. That means there are 54 companionships in the mission in training! I'm so grateful for all the miracles we have seen with these missionaries coming to their mission!
This week we had Sister Lin come to XiaoGang. She was serving in YongKang, but her companion started training, so Sister Lin came and stayed with us for a few days and moved again this morning. It was really fun to serve with her. She's from Taipei and has really good english, so it was kind of crazy just doing everything in Chinese, but also a lot of English to help her practice and explain things Sister Johnston didn't understand. It was really fun to be a three-man. Lots of miracles and cool experiences.
The highlight from this week was definitely Carol's baptism! The Schwieders drove us in their car up to the baptismal service in XinYing. It was so so so amazing to feel the Spirit so strongly throughout the service. The first time we met with Carol was Sister Johnston's first week here. Carol said she had been reading from the Book of Mormon and she just knew that Joseph Smith was God's prophet and that Jesus Christ is her Savior. She has so much faith and she was just so prepared to accept the restored gospel! I really think one of the reasons that Heavenly Father sent me here to Taiwan was to meet and teach Carol. She has really strengthened my testimony of the reality of this gospel. As she bore her testimony after being baptized, I felt the Spirit so strongly testify that what she was saying was true! I know that this Church is true and that it can change lives for the better.
We had a little miracle this week - there was a sister in the ward who I hadn't had a chance to meet. We went over and visited her this week and she told us about how she was baptized into the Church when she was 20 in XinYing! She's now married and has a little son. We were so excited to hear about her experience and to see how the gospel has completely changed her life. We were able to introduce her to Carol a few days before her baptism and she really helped Carol see how lasting this decision to be baptized is. How it is a start to a new life in God's Church.
This week I think I just really realized how important this gospel is in my life. It is because of the gospel and for the reality of our Heavenly Father that I am able to find peace and strength when things get hard. Through the restored gospel, I have been able to remember what is most important and to change and improve each day!
This week I read Moroni 7:16-17, "For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God. But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him."
President Hinckley has said, "if you are doing the right thing and if you are living the right way, you will know in your heart what the Spirit is saying to you."
I love feeling the Spirit and I love the happiness and peace that come as promised blessings of "doing the right thing"...but what does it mean to do the right thing. There are so many good things that we can do. Heavenly Father has clearly revealed to us the things that we should and should not do. It is by following the prophets and keeping the commandments that we can receive the blessings that Heavenly Father wants to bless us with. This gospel makes me so happy and I am so grateful I can be here sharing it with Taiwan!
I love you all so much! Stay strong! Sister Berrey
