January 5, 2014I'm so grateful for Jesus Christ! I'm so grateful this week we were able to celebrate His birth and remember the importance of His life.
I love Taiwan! I'm still in XiaoGang, in GaoXiong. It's such a dirty part of Taiwan! So many trucks and pollution and factories and fireworks go off here all the time! Last night, I was looking at the sky as we were biking and I could only see ONE star, there's so much air and light pollution here. But I love it! I love feeling covered by the dirt of GaoXiong after a long challenging day.
This week we met with one of our investigators a few times who is here studying from Africa. She's so fun! I absolutely love her! She's been here in Taiwan for a few months and has been studying Chinese for only about a month and a half and next semester all of her classes will be in Chinese! She's been really having a hard time with everything at her college, and she's been really trying to find the right church. Most of the churches around here are in Chinese. But we've been meeting with her and she loves what we share with her. She's so strong and she has so much faith and trust that God will help her know what Church to join and will help her know that what we are sharing with her is true. Ah, it's just such an amazing to be teaching someone in english. God puts us in difficult circumstances to lift us higher. He is there for us in the good and the bad circumstances. His love is infinite and eternal. I know He understands us each individually and everything that happens in our lives is for our own good. For our eternal good.
This week was pretty hard because we got stood up a lot. We had a lot of people scheduled to meet with us, but they never showed up. One of those happened in the far end of our area. We waited for so long to take the bus and stood for a long time in a super crowded bus to finally get to the place that we agreed to meet up at. We waited and waited, but she didn't come. But we were able to contact several people and meet some amazing people that Heavenly Father really needed us to meet. I know that Heavenly Father's plan is far better than our plan for ourselves. He knows His children, and He puts us where we need to be so that we can talk with the people we have been sent here to meet!
We sat down to call some phones one day and realized that the elders had contacted someone a few days earlier and had scheduled to meet with us at 4:00. But we already had a lesson scheduled for 4:00 with a less active at the church...not even in our area, so we had to do splits. We quickly called a member and she came and stayed with Sister King in XiaoGang and I went with the Schwieders to QianZhen to have the lesson with a less active. As we met with the less active, I did my best to translate for the Schwieders and keep the less going and do my best to help the less active. She has been meeting with the sister missionaries for several years. Since the Schwieders have been here, they said that they haven't seen any progress or change. But when we taught her that day, the Spirit was strong. I invited her to start reading the Book of Mormon from the beginning and write down what she learns. The Schwieders later told me that was the first time that she has accepted an invitation. I'm so happy that I, with the help of the Spirit, was able to help her change. Help her repent and come unto Christ.
Sorry this email is so short. I know this church is true! I love you all! Sister Berrey
