  • My Testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ

I'm so grateful we have a Heavenly Father. I'm so grateful He loves us enough to send His son Jesus Christ to earth to atone for us. I know that through Him, we will be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father. I know that we are all so important to Him. He really does love and care for us.

Almost five months since I got to Taiwan! How crazy is that?

Almost five months since I got to Taiwan! How crazy is that? Time is going way way way too fast. This week was so amazing. I love Taiwan so much!! We had some really amazing lessons this week...hopefully I will be able to help you feel how special they were and some more about what it's like to be a missionary here in Taiwan! :)

So on Monday night, we were trying really hard to find a member to help us teach one of our less actives. Most people aren't available in the mornings, but a sister in the ward said that we could come have the lesson at her house. I wasn't really sure about it, I felt bad asking the less active to travel to someone's house to have a lesson, but I felt like we should do it. The less active was really willing, and the lesson ended up being exactly what she needed. The Spirit was super strong, and the less active ended up comforting the member as she cried while sharing a spritual experience about prayer. It was a really good experience. We all learned a lot. I have been meeting with this less active almost the whole time I have been here in DongHai and just recently she started attending sacrament meeting again. It's been really amazing to see her progress and notice how the Lord has helped her. I know it's nothing that we are doing, but I really think the Spirit that she feels in our lessons has really helped her progress.

We met with an investigator at the park. We showed her a picture of Jesus Christ and told her a little bit about who he is. She had never heard his name before or seen a picture of Him. It was pretty amazing. I cannot imagine what it would be to not know who Jesus Christ is. I'm so grateful that I know my Savior. I'm so grateful for this gospel that allows us to become more like Him and have a personal relationship with Him. He has helped me so much. I find so much strength through Him. We all experience challenges and trials, but through His atonement we have the power to overcome these things and become who He knows we can become. I was reading in the ensign this week and it talked about how all of the trials that we experience in this life have been perfectly prepared for us individually. Before this life, we prepared for these trials and we have this time now to learn from and overcome the trials that the Lord puts in our life. I love this opportunity that I have to help people understand Jesus Christ, feel of His love, and come unto Him. He is my light and my strength.

One of the best feelings I get on my mission is after english class goes really well. Sister Peng and I are teaching the little kids class at free english class every week. Sometimes it's really frustrating to get them to listen and learn. I absolutely love kids, but getting them to actually learn english and trying to get them to focus is difficult sometimes. Especially when you don't have the best Chinese communication skills. It's hard sometimes. But this week's class went super well! We read a book with them about different cars. The boys loved it, and got really excited about the different cars, and the girls loved looking at the pictures and laughing at the little cats that we on each page. It was cute. They all drew their favorite car, and wrote its name in english. I just love it when english goes well. It can be super fun!

I've talked about this family before I think, Zheng Jia Ting. They are a recent convert family and they're in the process of moving right now! We went over one morning this week with the elders and spent a while helping them clean their new apartment and get it ready to move everything in. It was really fun to get to know them better, and scrub down the walls. There's still a lot to do, but the members have been over there this week helping them too. I absolutely love this ward! Everyone is so willing to help and so friendly with each other.

We had a lesson with a new investigator this week - as she said a prayer for the first time, she prayed that we would be abel to meet with her again! :)) And she told us that she felt really peaceful as she prayed. That was a really awesome lesson. Super simple and to the point and she was super receptive. Loved it.

We got to teach one of our investigators the first lesson this week - she brought her four year old with her and we taught things really simply so that even her daughter could understand. She was super interested and willing to do her part. Again, super simple and to the point and she was super receptive. I loved it. This gospel is really going to bless her family. She said she has relatives who are Christian, and she wants to understand more about what it is.

We had dinner with the ward mission leader and his wife this week! Us and the elders in our ward went together with them. We went to a hot pot restaurant, and when we got there, the FengJia elders were there too, meeting with a recent convert. So many foreigners in one place! That was really funny. They have these really short tables and the chairs are super small. It was pretty crowded. The elders struggled a little with their long legs. Haha. That place has unlimited ice cream, so we got plenty of that. :) So fun.

The elders went to get lunch earlier this week, but the place they wanted to go to was closed. They went to the restaurant next door and when they went up to order their food, the lady who worked there was like "...can I show you something?" She pulled out a Book of Mormon and a big stack of missionary tracts. She explained to them that the sister missionaries used to meet with her, but then lost contact with her. When the elders came in to eat, she thought they were coming to find her! The elders told us about her, so we went over to her restaurant. We got to sit down and talk with her for a little bit, she seemed pretty concerned about how the missionaries had stopped coming to find her. I have complete trust that Heavenly Father organized all of this to happen the way it did. I think the Lord was preparing her, and hopefully Sister Peng and I will be able to help her come unto Christ and understand more fully this gospel.

We went to visit a less active family, and invited a family from the ward to come with us because their kids are similar ages. The mom made a ton of Phillippino dishes for us to try and the kids played games as we talked with their mom. We asked the kids to take the plan of salvation puzzle that I have and put all the pieces in the right order. Then each person chose one part of the plan of salvation to teach to us. We told them that Sister Pang and I were the investigators and they were the missionaries and they had to help us understand. It was really fun! They didn't really know how to explain some things, so it was a good learning experience for all of us. I asked a few questions that kind of hinted at parts that they didn't really teach fully, and then they would tell me that I was a terrible investigator because investigators don't know that much! I loved being taught the plan of salvation really simply. It really showed me how simple this gospel is, that even little kids can understand it. In Preach My Gospel it says "Your responsibility is to teach clearly and powerfully so they can make a correct choice." Teaching clearly and simply is so important. Even things as important and complicated as the plan of salvation can be taught clearly and simply so that investigators can decide if they want to accept or deny it.

We met with one of our investigators after church yesterday. She insisted that we call her Xiao Lin Jie Mei. She's so funny. One of those people who just talks and talks and asks a questions and then just keeps talking and talking so you can't even answer her question. She's so funny! We actually managed to teach her the first lesson and give her a Book of Mormon, but it was so hard! As we taught her about the restoration, she kept giving us high fives because she liked it so much! She kept talking about how she's been to so many different churches, but they just use the understanding of men and their personal views on things to lead the churches. When we told her about how we have a living prophet leading the church today, she just kept saying "yes, yes, yes, you have to have this! Yes, yes!" It was so awesome. This church is so true.

I love Taiwan! I love my mission! I love my companion, Sister Peng! I love the Lord, Jesus Christ. I love this gospel and the hope that it brings to my life. I love you all! Have a great week! Become more like your Savior each day.
