July 7, 2014Today was move day - Sister Chang moved down to GaoXiong.
So many changes!! Today was move day - Sister Chang moved down to GaoXiong (a three hour train ride south) and I got a new companion, Sister Graham! Right now, we have three companionships in our district, and a missionary from each companionship moved today!
It was really hard seeing Sister Chang get ready to move. She's really happy to be going back to GaoXiong, because that's where she was serving before, but she was in DongHai for SEVEN MONTHS, so it was really hard to leave. She has become so close to the ward members and has really really helped the recent converts in this area. She's really made such a difference in this area, and I think people will really miss her.
I'm really excited for this new start with Sister Graham. I thought I got stared at a lot before...I'm sure we will make quite the scene here in Taiwan, a blonde and ginger. :) It'll be fun!
This week a member in our ward, Emma, had her baby!!! It was super exciting! This is her first baby, but before this one, she had two miscarriages. It has been really hard for her and her husband, so this was really exciting for them to finally have a child. :) They are so happy! Emma texted us the day after having the baby and invited Sister Chang and I to come see the baby. SOOO CUTE. We just looked at her in the nursery from outside. The nursery was just filled with little tiny babies all wrapped up and sleeping. So precious. I could really feel the Spirit. It's amazing to think that all those babies were just up in heaven a little while ago with Heavenly Father. Now is their time to come to earth and fill the measure of their creation! It was such a great reminder of the fact that we are all children of God, that He has sent us here on earth to grow and learn and experience and become like Him. I am so happy for Emma and her husband. I asked her husband how he feels now, and he said "wancheng bu yiyang." completely not the same. This is such an exciting time for them! Ah. So happy.
This week, Steven was baptized!! He has been ready to be baptized for a long time, but his family hasn't let him get baptized. It was so powerful to see him get baptized and to hear his testimony afterwards. He said that he feels so pure. He has such a strong testimony, and he really know what it means to get baptized, to enter into the fold and take that step towards salvation. I love teaching people about baptism, and I love learning about it. I love the promised blessing that comes with baptism. I new start. Chongxin de kaishi. Completely new. Everything washed away.
This week we had our english party! The theme was outer space!! We spent so long putting up decorations and getting everything ready. The party went really well and it was so fun! We had a relay race, light saber fight, and an alien game. There were three teams, and each team had to do the relay race, and whichever team was the fastest won! The first station had paper cups filled with water. They had to win rock, paper, scissors to grab as many cups as they could carry to the next table. Then they had to dump out the water and stack the cups to make a pyramid. After that, they brought the water over to the next table and we dumped some beans in the water. They had to use the chopsticks to pick out ten beans (it was a little hard, even for people who use chopsticks every single day!) and the last station was a puzzle that the whole team had to put together. It was super fun, and people got really into it! :)
Things are so good here! I'm learning so much, and growing a lot. My Chinese is getting better and I'm getting more used to the heat. I love being a missionary. I love seeing people look at me, then look down at my name tag. I am doing my best to represent Jesus Christ well. I love Him so much. I love this gospel so much. I know it's true. I wouldn't be here in Taiwan if it wasn't true.
Sorry I'm really short on time this week. I love you all! Stay happy!
Love, Sister Berrey
