  • My Testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ

I'm so grateful we have a Heavenly Father. I'm so grateful He loves us enough to send His son Jesus Christ to earth to atone for us. I know that through Him, we will be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father. I know that we are all so important to Him. He really does love and care for us.

  • Temples My family is united forever

I love going to the temple. I feel so lucky to be able to go every week while I'm here in the MTC. The temple is literally the house of the Lord and I always feel the Spirit so strongly when I go! I love it.

This week was so amazing!! I loved it.

This week was so amazing!! I loved it. On Monday, we were supposed to meet with a member, but she cancelled on us. Instead we prepared for our english party and did phone calls. We set up with so many potential people! It was really perfect. Most of the time people don't answer their phones, but that night a lot of people answered their phones and were interested. That night we were just super excited for this week because we had so much planned!

On Tuesday, we had DTM. Our district leader assigned us each and topic to talk about a little bit. We each took a turn just bearing our testimonies and sharing experiences for a few minutes. The meeting was so amazing - we all learned so much from each other and the Spirit was so strong! It was a great experience. My topic was what I have loved about my mission so far. I talked about a few different things, but one thing was about smiling. One of my favorite parts of being a missionary here in Taiwan is the fact that I can make people smile. When we are just riding our bikes to appointments, so many people watch me and stare at me because I look so different. One thing that just makes me really happy is when someone is watching me, we make eye contact, I smile, and then they smile back. Some people just keep staring, but it makes me so happy when I make people smile. Everyone has the light of Christ in them, and I believe smiling is one way of showing that. :)

Wednesday was our MEXICAN PARTY!!! At the end of each transfer, we have a party for english class! This transfer we decided to plan a Mexican Party! We started planning way in advance and got everything together and it went super well!! We had chips and salsa, a pinata, paper mustaches for everyone to wear and Spanish name tags. There was a photobooth and pin the tail on the llama! We also taught everyone the macarana! It was super fun. The little kids went crazy. The best part of the party was our spiritual share at the end. We decorated four different rooms in the church to symbolize different parts of the plan of salvation, and then took everyone through it and explained each part. Pre-earth life, earth life, spirit world, resurrection, judgment, and the kingdoms of glory. It went really well! Sister Chang and I were in the earth life room. We had this paper hanging in the doorway, symbolizing the veil. When everyone came in, we gave them each a piece of candy and a rock. They put the candy in their mouth and the rock in their shoe. Then we had them jump on the foot that had the rock and talk about how it hurt and was really uncomfortable. Then we talked about how we come to earth to experience good and bad. To enjoy the good and learn from the bad. We are all given our own challenges and blessings, but sometimes we focus on the things that hurt and forget about all the blessings that we have been given, like the sweet candy in our mouth. It was pretty powerful at the end, just seeing everyone sitting there as we explained how important the plan of salvation is. I know that this plan really is God's plan. He really does have a plan for each one of us, and we really can return back to live with Him again. I am so grateful for the plan of salvation. It has changed my life, and given me so much purpose and perspective.

We had a really awesome lesson with a new investigator this week - at the end of the lesson we were teaching her about prayer and then invited her to try it. She said (in Chinese) "Dear Heavenly Father....thank you....amen." I think we might have been able to explain prayer to her a little better, but it was her first time. I really thought that prayer was really powerful though. Sometimes we just have so much to say, all we can say is thank you. I'm so grateful for everything that God has given me. More grateful than I can explain in words. So maybe just saying thank you will have to do.

A huge miracle happened this week - we received a member referral from LiMama! Her friend just recently moved to Taizhong and contacted her to hear more about the Church. We met with her and learn more about the situation - she wants to get baptized as soon as possible because she's been investigating the church for over eight years, and now she just feels like it's right. So we started at the beginning this week and started teaching her all the discussions. She's really awesome, and we set a goal for her baptism! Hopefully we will be able to reach that goal. I think there's a lot that she has forgotten or didn't learn. It's really awesome to teach someone who already has some background in the Church though. We asked her about her relationship with Jesus Christ the other day in one of our lessons and she thought about it and said "I am His lamb." It was precious.

This week I did my first phase one pass off with the zone leaders!!! I've been working really hard to learn all the Chinese phrases and words for the first three lessons from Preach My Gospel. After I pass each lesson off with the district leader, I have an evaluation with one of the zone leaders. We were running short on time because that day was really crazy, so he did it a little differently than they usually do it. Usually he evaluates me on my language and grammar and vocabulary and everything, and then he chooses like eight different principles for me to teach, but instead he just asked me to teach him everything from the beginning, each lesson a few minutes long. It was so crazy and I didn't really think I would be able to cover all of the information that fast. But I just said a little prayer and remembered that I had prepared for this! And I did it! I really know that when we work hard and do our best, God just fills in the rest. I know that God is really a huge part of this work. He is guiding it, and helping each one of us. We all feel inadequate and are all imperfect, but God makes up for that and the work moves forward.

I think this next week is going to be pretty hard for Sister Chang and I because the other two sisters who were living in our apartment had to move! This move call no new sisters came in, so they had to temporarily close a few areas because they're short sisters. Sister Haupt and Sister Harper both got called to different areas and so now it's just me and Sister Chang in our apartment. We all cried when we found out, and it was really hard. But I know that it'll all be okay. Everything is part of God's perfect plan. Sister Chang and I are going to have so much fun together!! We are just really going to miss having so much fun with the other sisters everyday.

I know that this Church is true! I am so happy I get to be a missionary!! This is something I have been waiting for all my life. I am so grateful for prayer. For the fact that we can literally talk to God any time we want. He's always there, watching out for us, supporting us. Today I spent a lot of time on the bus talking to Sponge. She talked to me about how she prays to God, how they are just best friends. I really love how she just tells him everything. She'll say "Heavenly Father, look at the clouds today! They're so pretty! Don't you think they're pretty!?" He's there for the little things, and for the big things. And He never ever gives up on us. I know that we can all have a really strong relationship with our Heavenly Father. He wants to talk to us. He's just waiting for us to pray. It's that simple.

Love, Sister Berrey
